Oishinbo is one of those weird, charming Famicom games that never made it out of Japan—probably because it’s based on a manga all about food. You play as a journalist traveling around, eating dishes, and writing reviews, which sounds simple until you realize how much weird little dialogue and random trivia gets thrown at you.
It’s got that classic NES adventure game feel—lots of menus, some light exploration, and a surprising amount of text (all in Japanese, so good luck if you don’t know the language). The food sprites are weirdly detailed for an 8-bit game, though, and there’s something oddly satisfying about picking the right ingredients or judging a dish’s flavor balance.
Definitely more of a curiosity than a must-play, but if you’re into retro oddities or foodie culture, it’s a neat little time capsule.
