About Oishinbo (japan)
Oishinbo came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, developed by SAS Sakata. It is based on a long running manga series about food and journalism, and like many titles from that era, it was only released in Japan. You get a sense of the Famicom's library from this game; it fits right in with other adventure titles that tried to adapt popular comics into interactive experiences.
In the game, you control a newspaper reporter named Shiro Yamaoka. Your main job is to investigate restaurants and seek out the ultimate menu. The gameplay involves moving from location to location on a map, talking to various characters to get information and clues. You often have to eat dishes at restaurants, which triggers reactions and progresses the story. The pacing is deliberate, focused more on conversation and exploration than on action. It feels like you are navigating a culinary mystery, piecing together the story one meal at a time.
