Oddworld Adventures on Game Boy is one of those weird little gems that somehow makes jumping, sneaking, and chanting "Hello!" at your fellow Mudokons feel strangely addictive. You play as Abe, this big-eyed, floppy-limbed guy who’s way more fragile than he looks—one wrong step near a mine or a Slig guard’s gun, and it’s back to the last checkpoint.
The puzzles are clever without being unfair, though I’ll admit I got stuck for way too long figuring out how to use those weird teleporting portals. And yeah, the Game Boy’s tiny screen means you’ll miss some details from the PS1 version, but there’s something charming about how the sprites still ooze personality even in monochrome.
It’s not just about platforming—you’ll spend half your time nervously timing Abe’s sneaky tiptoes past enemies or rescuing other Mudokons (who, let’s be honest, will probably walk straight into danger the second you free them). The controls take a minute to get used to, but once it clicks, you’ll be laughing at Abe’s goofy death animations more than you probably should.
If you’re into retro games with a mix of tension and dumb humor, this one’s still worth dusting off your Game Boy for.
