About Ninku
I first played Ninku on the Game Boy back in 1996, a time when portable games were mostly simple affairs. It was developed by Yutaka, and it stood out for trying to bring a more involved action-adventure experience to the small screen. You don't see many games like it from that era, where the ambition was to fit a console-style adventure into a cartridge.
You control Fuusuke, a young ninja captain with a unique power: he can shoot his fists like rockets. Your main goal is to rescue your kidnapped comrades by navigating through a series of side-scrolling stages. The gameplay mixes exploration with combat; you punch enemies, use your extendable fists to hit distant targets, and find keys to unlock doors. Each stage is a self-contained puzzle of sorts, requiring you to figure out the correct path and defeat the boss at the end. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and some of the platforming can be quite tricky, demanding precise jumps. It feels like a thoughtful, sometimes demanding, test of your timing and exploration skills.
