About Nihon Daihyou Team - Eikou No Eleven (japan)
Nihon Daihyou Team - Eikou No Eleven came out for the Game Boy in 1994, a time when handheld sports games were still finding their footing. I believe it was published by Bandai, and it was one of the few soccer titles you could carry in your pocket back then. It didn't have the flash of a console game, but it was solid for what it was, a straightforward soccer simulation for a portable system.
You take control of the entire Japanese national soccer team, managing players and directing them down the field. The main goal is to win matches and progress through a tournament, aiming for the championship. The gameplay is screen by screen; the entire field is broken into sections, and you move your team from one screen to the next, which makes positioning and passing a thoughtful process. You select actions from a menu for passing, shooting, and tackling, which gives it a slightly tactical feel compared to real-time action games. The pacing is methodical, and the difficulty can be sharp, especially when the computer opponent seizes a scoring chance. It feels like a chess match played with a soccer ball, a slow but engaging test of your strategic planning.
