Nightshade - Part 1 - The Claws of Sutekh is one of those weird, late-era NES games that tried to do something different—sort of a detective adventure with action elements. You play as this trenchcoat-wearing hero (who looks suspiciously like a certain Dark Knight) solving crimes in a noir-ish city while occasionally punching thugs in the face. The dialogue’s cheesy in that classic NES way, and the controls take a second to get used to, but there’s something oddly charming about its mix of point-and-click style puzzles and beat-em-up scraps.
First 10 minutes? You’re immediately thrown into a crime scene, picking up random objects like a broken bottle and a matchbook while some goon tries to jump you in an alley. The combat’s janky, but once you figure out the timing, it clicks. Just don’t expect smooth platforming—this isn’t Ninja Gaiden. It’s more about the vibe, really.
If you’re into obscure NES oddities with a detective twist, this one’s worth a look—just don’t go in expecting a polished gem.
