About Nightmare Creatures
Nightmare Creatures came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1997, developed by Kalisto Entertainment. It was one of those darker action games that felt a bit different from the usual platformers and mascot adventures on the system at the time. You could tell they were trying to bring a more mature, gothic horror vibe to the console.
You control either Ignatius or Nadia, fighting through streets and catacombs overrun by mutated creatures. The main goal is to stop an evil cult from unleashing a plague that turns people into monsters. You explore the city screen by screen, using swords and a crossbow to fight off enemies. A key mechanic is the adrenaline meter; performing well in combat fills it, letting you unleash more powerful attacks. The game is known for its difficulty, with aggressive enemies and a constant pressure to keep moving. Playing it feels like a tense, relentless struggle for survival in a city that has already been lost.
