About Nigel Mansell's World Championship
Nigel Mansell's World Championship came out for the Game Boy in 1992, developed by Gremlin Interactive. It was one of the few serious attempts to bring a Formula One experience to the handheld during that era, a time when portable racing games were often simpler arcade affairs. Having a licensed game with a real champion's name attached felt like a notable step up for the system.
You control Nigel Mansell's car through a full season, racing against fifteen other drivers on circuits recreated from the 1992 calendar. The core gameplay involves managing your speed through tight corners, drafting opponents on straights to slingshot past them, and avoiding crashes that can ruin your race. The view is from behind your car, and the tracks scroll by in a smooth, screen-by-screen manner that requires you to learn braking points and racing lines. It's a challenging game; a single mistake can cost you several positions, and the AI drivers are relentless. The feeling of nailing a perfect lap and seeing the checkered flag first is a genuine reward for all the concentration it demands.
