Nettou World Heroes 2 Jet is one of those Game Boy fighters that somehow makes tiny sprites feel like they’re throwing down in an arcade. You’ve got this wild mix of characters—samurai, cyborgs, even Rasputin—and they all play way differently than you’d expect. I kept picking the ninja at first because, well, ninja, but turns out the cowboy’s whip has ridiculous range.
The controls are simple (two buttons and a D-pad, obviously), but there’s a weird rhythm to the fights—everything’s a little slower than Street Fighter, so you actually have time to think between punches. And that chiptune soundtrack? Pure 90s fighting game cheese in the best way. It’s the kind of game where you lose three rounds in a row, then suddenly figure out how to chain moves and stomp the AI into the dirt.
If you’ve got a buddy with a link cable, the versus mode gets stupidly fun once you both know what you’re doing. Just don’t expect fancy combos—this is more about reading your opponent and landing that one satisfying super move. Still holds up if you’re into retro brawlers.
