Man, Nettou The King of Fighters '96 on Game Boy is a weird little time capsule. It's not the prettiest port—sprites are chunky, moves are simplified—but there's something charming about cramming KOF's chaos into a tiny cartridge. You still get a decent roster (Iori’s in there, thank god), and the controls somehow make fireballs work on a D-pad.
First thing you’ll notice? The music. It’s got that crunchy Game Boy sound chip doing its best to replicate the arcade bangers. Not perfect, but you’ll hum it anyway. And yeah, it’s janky by today’s standards, but if you’ve got nostalgia for 90s handheld fighters, this one’s a fun curiosity. Just don’t expect SNK arcade perfection.
