About Nettou King Of Fighters '97
Nettou King of Fighters '97 came out for the Game Boy in 1997, published by Takara. It was a time when getting a portable version of an arcade fighting game felt like a small miracle, even if the hardware meant things had to be scaled back. This was one of the attempts to bring a complex arcade experience to the monochrome screen you held in your hands.
You pick a fighter from a limited roster and face a series of opponents in one-on-one battles. The main goal is to defeat all the challengers in the single-player mode. The controls are simplified from the arcade original, but you can still perform special moves and basic combos. The game uses a life bar system, and you win a round by depleting your opponent's health or having more health when time runs out. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can feel sharp, especially in later matches. It feels like a condensed, personal challenge every time you press start.
