About Nemesis (japan)
Nemesis for the Game Boy was released in 1990, developed by Konami and published by Ultra Games. It shares its name with the European version of Gradius and reworks elements from the first two Gradius titles. This horizontal shooter arrived when the handheld was building a library of ambitious arcade conversions, offering a portable take on a familiar formula.
You pilot the Vic Viper starship, navigating left to right across scrolling stages filled with alien craft and environmental hazards. Your main objective is to survive each level, defeat the boss, and progress. Signature mechanics include collecting power-up capsules to upgrade your weapons, like the spread shot or laser, and deploying options, which are floating orbs that mirror your attacks. The game is fast and demanding, requiring precise dodging and strategic weapon selection to handle the dense enemy patterns. Playing it feels like a constant, tense dance between aggression and evasion.
