Nekketsu! Beach Volley Dayo Kunio-kun came out for the Game Boy in 1994, developed by Technos Japan Corp. It was part of that wave of portable games where developers tried to fit their bigger console ideas onto the small screen. This one took the familiar Kunio-kun characters from games like River City Ransom and put them into a beach volleyball setting.

You control one of the characters from a top-down perspective, moving around the court to serve, bump, set, and spike the ball. The main goal is to win matches against a series of increasingly tough opponents. A couple of its signature mechanics are the special shot you can charge up by holding a button, and the way you can sometimes knock the opposing players down to stop them from returning the ball. The game moves at a fast clip, and the computer opponents get difficult quickly, demanding precise timing on your jumps and hits. It feels like a frantic, condensed version of volleyball where a single mistimed button press can cost you the point.
