Navy Blue '98 is one of those obscure Game Boy titles that slipped under the radar—probably because it never left Japan. It's a naval strategy game where you command ships in turn-based battles, plotting moves on a grid like some kind of admiral playing chess. The pixel art ships are tiny but weirdly charming, and the whole thing has that classic Game Boy aesthetic where everything's either blue or slightly darker blue.

First few minutes go like this: You pick a fleet (I went with destroyers because they looked cool), then immediately realize you have no idea how torpedo ranges work. The menus are all in Japanese, but after some trial and error, you start figuring out which button makes your cruisers stop drifting into each other. There's something satisfying about outmaneuvering the AI once you get the hang of it, even if half the time you're just guessing.

Definitely not for everyone, but if you're into niche retro strategy games, this one's a neat little time capsule.
