Napoleon Senki is one of those deep-cut NES war games that never made it out of Japan, which is a shame because it's actually pretty solid for an 8-bit strategy title. You're basically Napoleon, moving little pixelated armies across Europe, trying not to get wrecked by the British or Russians. The map looks like a board game at first glance, but there's some real depth here—you've got to manage supplies, terrain, and unit types (cavalry charges feel way different than musket lines).
First time I played, I got smoked because I didn't realize how fast attrition kicks in if you overextend. The music's got this weirdly intense march tune that somehow makes moving a tiny general sprite feel epic. If you're into old-school hex-and-counter wargames but wish they had more charm, this one's a hidden gem. Just don't expect an English patch—you'll be menu-guessing for the first hour.
