Nagagutsu Wo Haita Neko - Sekai Isshuu 80 Nichi Daibouken (japan) Game
📅 1986 ✍️ Toei Animation

This one's a weird little NES gem based on that old Puss 'n Boots anime. You play as Pero the cat, hopping across platforms with his tiny sword, dodging enemies that range from cartoonish to oddly menacing for a kids' game. The first level throws you right into a castle siege—one minute you're slicing apples out of the air, the next you're getting dive-bombed by angry birds.
Controls are floaty in that classic NES way—takes a minute to get used to how far Pero slides after a jump. The music's got this bouncy charm though, all jaunty trumpets and strings that somehow make even the cheap deaths feel less frustrating. Found myself humming the tunes hours later.
It's short, maybe too easy if you're used to brutal platformers, but there's something charming about how unapologetically silly it is. That final boss fight against a literal demonic mouse king? Perfect nonsense.
