NHL Blades of Steel '99 is that classic N64 hockey game where the action never slows down—skating feels fast and loose, checks land with a satisfying crunch, and the puck moves like it’s got a mind of its own. The commentary’s cheesy in that late-90s way, but it somehow adds to the charm when the announcer loses his mind over a slap shot.
What I love is how chaotic multiplayer gets—four players on the same screen turns into pure hockey anarchy, with elbows flying and everyone shouting over each other. The graphics were solid for the time, with player models that actually look like they belong on ice instead of floating above it. Just don’t expect modern realism—this is arcade-style hockey where the fun’s in the speed and the fights (because yeah, you can still drop the gloves).
If you’ve got an N64 and a few friends around, this one’s a no-brainer for some old-school couch competition.
