NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1999, developed by Midway Games. It was part of that wave of arcade style basketball games on the N64, a time when you could just pick up and play without needing to learn complex playbooks. This was the follow up to NBA Jam, and it kept that same over the top spirit, just with a new name and the NBC broadcast presentation.

You control a team of two NBA players, running up and down the court for high flying dunks and long three pointers. The main goal is to outscore your opponent, and you can do this by triggering on fire streaks after making a few baskets in a row. When you are on fire, your shots almost always go in and your player moves much faster. Another key feature is the turbo button, which you hold to sprint and perform exaggerated special moves. The game moves at a very fast pace, and the difficulty can spike sharply against the computer, especially when it starts making impossible shots. It feels like a chaotic, back and forth contest where a ten point lead can vanish in a moment.
