NBA Pro 99 on the N64 is one of those basketball games that feels surprisingly solid for its time. The players move with a bit of that classic N64 stiffness, but once you get used to it, the controls actually hold up—especially if you’re into arcade-style hoops. The rosters are decently accurate for the era, and the AI doesn’t just let you dunk your way to victory every time (though you can still cheese a few plays if you figure out the right angles).
What I like is how quick the matches feel—no endless timeouts or drawn-out animations, just pick-up-and-play basketball. The graphics won’t blow anyone away now, but back then, the player models and courts had just enough detail to feel immersive. If you’re dusting off the N64 and want something faster than NBA Live but less chaotic than NBA Jam, this one’s a good middle ground.
