NBA Pro 98 (E) game

NBA Pro 98 on the N64 is one of those classic basketball games that still holds up if you're into retro sports titles. The controls feel surprisingly smooth for an early 3D hoops game—dribbling and shooting actually respond the way you expect, unlike some janky sports games from that era. The player models are blocky by today’s standards, but they’ve got this weird charm, and the animations for dunks and crossovers are way better than they had any right to be in '98.

What I love is how fast-paced it is. You can call plays, but honestly, half the fun is just pushing the tempo and throwing alley-oops to your created player (who, let’s be real, you’ll absolutely max out in the dunk stat). The rosters are a nostalgia trip if you remember late-'90s NBA stars, though good luck finding anyone who can reliably hit a three.

It’s not perfect—the AI defense sometimes just watches you drive past—but for couch multiplayer, it’s still a blast. Just don’t expect modern mechanics or you’ll be disappointed.
