About Mystery Quest
I first played Mystery Quest on the Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1988, a game from Banpresto that fit right in with the platform's library of side-scrolling adventures. It was a straightforward release for its time, not trying to reinvent the wheel but offering a solid, contained experience.
You control a young hero exploring a large, interconnected castle, moving screen by screen. Your main goal is to find a magic crystal hidden somewhere within the fortress. You use a sword to fight off the various monsters that appear, and you also collect keys to unlock the many doors blocking your path. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the difficulty comes from learning the castle's layout and dealing with enemy placements. It feels like a methodical search through a dangerous, unfamiliar place.
