About Mulan (usa, Europe)
I remember picking up Mulan for the Game Boy around 1998, a time when movie tie-ins were common on the handheld. THQ published it, and it fit right in with the other side scrolling action games of that era. You start with a still image from the film before being dropped into a level, which was a straightforward way to set the scene.
You control Mulan through platforming stages, running, jumping, and climbing across environments from the movie. Your main goal is to progress to the end of each stage, fighting enemies mostly by throwing rocks at them since you don't get a sword until much later. The game mixes in some simple puzzles, like figuring out how to get past obstacles. It's a difficult game; you can only take a few hits before losing a life, and the controls can feel unresponsive during precise jumps. Finishing a level feels like a relief after so many attempts.
