About Mr. Chin's Gourmet Paradise
I picked up Mr. Chin's Gourmet Paradise for the Game Boy back when it came out. It was published by I'Max, and it fit right in with the kind of quirky, single-screen action puzzles that were common on the system. You don't hear much about it now, but it had a certain charm that stuck with me.
You control Mr. Chin, a chef who must collect all the food items on each stage. The main objective is to clear every screen of its ingredients while avoiding enemies like rats and birds. Your primary tool is a mallet, which you use to stun these pests temporarily. The levels are single-screen affairs, and a key mechanic involves dropping ingredients from higher platforms to lower ones, sometimes creating chains to reach everything. The pacing is methodical; you can't rush, or you'll get cornered. It feels like a careful dance of planning your route and timing your strikes against the enemies that respawn if you take too long. Playing it is a test of patience and spatial awareness more than quick reflexes.
