I remember getting Mortal Kombat II for my Game Boy in 1994. It was developed by Probe Entertainment, and back then, having a fighting game this complex on a handheld felt like a small miracle. The screen was small and the colors were limited, but it was unmistakably Mortalombat, a direct port of the arcade hit that was everywhere at the time.

You pick a fighter from the roster, like Sub-Zero or Scorpion, and battle through a series of one-on-one fights. The main goal is to defeat all the other combatants and ultimately face the emperor, Shao Kahn. The controls are simplified for the Game Boy's two-button layout, but it retains the special moves; you can still throw a spear or freeze an opponent. Fatalities are here too, the finishing moves you input after winning a round. The game is challenging, with the AI reading your inputs, making later fights a real test of patience and pattern recognition. It feels like a condensed, portable version of the arcade chaos, a little rough but surprisingly complete.
