Mortal Kombat II on Game Boy is a surprisingly solid port of the arcade classic—though obviously scaled down, it still delivers that brutal, bone-cracking feel. You’ve got all the usual suspects like Scorpion and Sub-Zero, plus new faces like Baraka with those gnarly arm blades. The controls are tighter than the first game, and fatalities are just as ridiculous (if a bit harder to pull off on the tiny screen).
First thing you’ll notice? The sprites are tiny, but they somehow still make uppercuts and fireballs satisfying. And yeah, the blood’s there—more than you’d expect from Nintendo’s squeaky-clean handheld. It’s not perfect—some stages are just black backgrounds—but nailing a flawless victory on the bus never gets old.
If you grew up mashing buttons in arcades, this one’s a weird little time capsule.
