Mortal Kombat II on Game Boy—yeah, the tiny, green-screen version. It’s wild how they crammed all the blood and fatalities into this little cartridge. The sprites are chunky, and Liu Kang’s bicycle kick looks like he’s glitching through reality, but somehow it still feels like Mortal Kombat. You’ve got all the classics: Sub-Zero’s freeze, Scorpion’s spear, and Raiden’s… questionable haircut.
It’s the Japan-only release, so the title screen’s in kanji, but the menus are still in English. Fights are slower than the arcade version, obviously, but the controls are surprisingly decent once you get used to the Game Boy’s two-button setup. Just don’t expect to pull off flawless victories every time—this port demands patience.
Honestly, half the fun is seeing how they adapted the gore for Nintendo’s kid-friendly handheld. Let’s just say the "blood" looks more like someone spilled grape soda on the screen.
