Momotarou Dengeki Gaiden is one of those weird little Game Boy RPGs that somehow sticks with you. You start off as the peach boy from the folktale, but instead of just beating up demons with your animal pals, you're running around these chunky pixel worlds, smacking enemies with a sword that feels just a tiny bit too short at first.

The battles are simple—no fancy turn-based stuff here—but there's something satisfying about the way your attacks connect. And the music? That classic Game Boy beep-boops somehow make fighting giant tengu feel way more epic than it should. I remember getting stuck for ages near the bamboo forest because I kept missing one hidden path.

It's not the deepest RPG out there, but there's charm in how it mashes up traditional Japanese stuff with that early 90s handheld jank. You'll probably finish it in an afternoon if you know what you're doing, but it's the kind of game that makes you smile when you remember it years later.
