About Moero!! Pro Soccer (japan)

Moero!! Pro Soccer came out in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, a time when sports games were finding their footing on the console. Konami published it, and it was one of several soccer titles trying to capture the feel of the sport with 8-bit limitations. It didn't have the official licenses of some later games, so you played with teams that had their own made-up names and kits.

You control all eleven players on your squad, switching between them as the ball moves around the field. The main objective is simple: score more goals than the opposing team. A couple of mechanics stand out. There's a power meter for your shots that you have to time carefully; a full-power strike sends the ball screaming toward the net, but it's easy to sky it over the crossbar if you misjudge. You also have a sliding tackle that is very effective for stealing the ball, though using it recklessly will quickly draw a foul from the referee. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the computer opponents provide a decent challenge, especially on higher difficulty settings where they capitalize on mistakes. It feels responsive and direct, a solid arcade-style interpretation of soccer for its era.
