Capcom released Mighty Final Fight for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, a time when the 8-bit console was still home to many new games. It was their scaled down version of the arcade beat 'em up, bringing that style of action to a home audience that might have missed the original cabinets. The NES version had to work within the system's limits, but it managed to capture the core of the genre.

You control one of three characters, like Cody or Haggar, and walk from left to right through city streets and industrial areas. Your main goal is to punch and kick your way through waves of thugs to rescue the mayor's kidnapped daughter. Signature mechanics include a dedicated jump button separate from your attack, a level up system that permanently increases your health and teaches you new special moves, and screen by screen progression where you must clear all enemies to advance. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty is substantial, especially when dealing with enemies that attack from both sides. It feels satisfying to land a well timed special move and watch your character grow stronger with each stage completed.
