Mickey Mouse Capade is one of those weird little NES games that feels like it couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a Disney platformer or a fever dream. You control Mickey (with Minnie awkwardly trailing behind like a lost puppy) through these surreal levels—a fun house, an ocean, a pirate ship—all to rescue Alice from Wonderland for some reason. The whole thing has this off-brand charm, like someone mashed up Disney sprites with leftover Hudson Soft assets.

It’s clunky, sure—Minnie keeps getting kidnapped at random, and the hit detection is… questionable. But there’s something oddly endearing about fighting off Disney villains like Pete and Maleficent (who, plot twist, is the final boss instead of Pete). The Japanese version swaps in the Queen of Hearts, which honestly makes more sense given the Alice theme. Also, if you’re the type to crack open cartridges, there’s a hidden Mickey etched into the circuit board, which feels like an inside joke from the devs.

Not Capcom’s best Disney collab, but a weird little time capsule if you’re into retro oddities.
