About Menace Beach (unl)
Menace Beach came out in 1990 for the NES, but it wasn't from Nintendo. It was published by Color Dreams, a company known for making unlicensed cartridges that bypassed the official seal. This was during the peak of the NES era, a time when a lot of smaller companies were trying to get a piece of the action, often with mixed results.
You control a guy named Lance, who has to rescue his girlfriend from a gang of bikini-clad women on a beach. The main objective is to fight your way through five distinct areas, each a single screen you must clear of enemies before you can move on. Your primary weapon is a boomerang you throw at the enemies, and you also collect power-ups like a skateboard for a temporary speed boost. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming from all sides almost immediately, and the difficulty is notoriously unforgiving. Playing it feels like a constant, frantic scramble just to survive for more than a few seconds.
