About Meiji Ishin (japan)
Meiji Ishin was a Japan only release for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by TOSE and published by SNK. It came out during a period when many developers were experimenting with historical settings and action adventure formats on the console.
You control a lone swordsman navigating a side scrolling world. Your main goal is to fight through enemy soldiers and supernatural foes to restore order during the Meiji Restoration. The game uses a life bar system for health, and you collect power ups to strengthen your character's attack. Movement is screen by screen, and the pacing is deliberate, with a difficulty that requires careful engagement with enemies. Playing it feels like a methodical test of your timing and persistence.
