Okay, so Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible is one of those Game Boy RPGs that somehow flew under the radar—probably because it never left Japan back in the day. But if you're into old-school dungeon crawlers with a twist, this one's worth digging up.
You start off as this kid who gets dragged into a mess involving demons (classic Megaten move), and before you know it, you're recruiting them to fight alongside you. The monster-collecting here feels way more immediate than in later games—no lengthy negotiations, just straight-up "join me or get wrecked." I ended up with a weirdly effective team of a fairy, a goblin, and some floating eyeball thing by the second dungeon.
Combat’s standard turn-based stuff, but the dungeons? Brutal. You’ll be mapping them out on graph paper unless you enjoy walking into the same dead-end hallway six times. The pixel art’s surprisingly detailed for a Game Boy title, especially the demon designs—some of them look like they wandered in from a much darker game.
It’s shorter than your average RPG, but that’s almost a relief. No 50-hour slog, just a compact, weird little adventure with enough demon-fusing chaos to keep it interesting. If you can track it down, it’s a solid deep cut for Megaten fans.
