About Medarot Kabuto
Medarot Kabuto came out for the Game Boy in 1999, published by Natsume. It was part of that wave of late 90s portable games where you could build and command your own team of robots, a concept that felt fresh and personal on the small screen. This wasn't a big console spectacle; it was a game you carried in your pocket, a world of collectible parts and turn based battles that fit right into the handheld experience of the time.
You control a young boy who finds and assembles a Medarot, a customizable robot powered by collectible medals. Your main goal is to fight other Medarots in tournaments, exploring the town and surrounding areas screen by screen to find new parts and challengers. The combat is turn based, letting you choose different attacks for your robot's right arm, left arm, and legs each round. Collecting and swapping out these parts to find powerful combinations is a core part of the game. The pacing is deliberate, with a difficulty that encourages you to think about your loadout before each fight. It feels like tinkering in a garage, slowly building something uniquely your own.
