Maui Mallard on Game Boy is this weird, charming little platformer where you play as a duck detective—yeah, really. At first glance it looks like another Disney tie-in, but then you realize Maui can turn into this ninja duck called "Cold Shadow" with a totally different moveset, and suddenly the game gets way more interesting.
The levels are packed with secrets and alternate paths, and the controls have that satisfying "snap" to them—jumping between vines in the jungle or bouncing off enemies just feels right. Some of the later stages get brutal though, especially when you're trying to nail those pixel-perfect jumps over lava pits.
It's got that classic 90s platformer vibe where the music sticks in your head for days, and the sprite work is surprisingly detailed for a Game Boy cart. Just don't expect the story to make much sense—something about stolen idols and tiki curses? Doesn't matter. You're here to flip between duck and ninja mode while chucking shurikens at spiders. Classic stuff.
