About Matthias Sammer Soccer
Matthias Sammer Soccer came out for the Game Boy in 1993, published by Nintendo. It was one of the many sports titles trying to capture the feel of the sport on the small, monochrome screen. You get a straightforward soccer game without the frills of later console releases.
You control a team of players, moving them around a top-down field. The main goal is to score more goals than the opposing team. The game uses a screen-by-screen view, so the camera jumps to follow the ball as it moves across the pitch. Passing and shooting are your main tools; you aim your kicks and try to outmaneuver the defense. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can be sharp, especially when the computer seizes on a mistake. It feels like a brisk, challenging match where every possession counts.
