Master Chu & The Drunkard Hu (unl) Game

Master Chu & The Drunkard Hu is one of those NES games that sounds way cooler than it actually is. You play as two wandering mystic warriors—basically kung fu wizards—trying to kick out some vengeful god from ancient China. The idea alone should make this an instant classic, but the execution? Not so much.
You’ve got your basic side-scrolling beat-em-up action, but the controls feel stiff, and the enemies just sort of… appear out of nowhere. The magic system could’ve been interesting, but half the spells feel useless. And don’t get me started on the hit detection—sometimes you swear you landed a punch, but nope, the game disagrees.
Still, there’s something charming about the weird, janky vibe of it all. The music’s decent, and the sprite work has its moments. Just don’t go in expecting a hidden gem—it’s more of a "what could’ve been" kind of game.
