Master Chu The Drunkard Hu is one of those weird, tough-as-nails NES platformers that feels like it was designed to make you sweat. You play as Master Chu, whose village got wrecked by some cursed spirits—so naturally, he teams up with a drunken martial artist (Hu) to fight through temples and palaces. The twist? You’ve gotta hunt down eight hidden symbols on each level before the boss even shows up, which means a lot of backtracking and frantic jumping over bottomless pits.
Controls are stiff in that classic NES way, and the enemies hit hard, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about the rhythm once you get used to it. Two-player mode is chaotic fun, though good luck coordinating with a buddy when everything’s trying to kill you. If you’re into obscure, punishing platformers with a weird sense of humor, this one’s a trip. Just don’t expect it to go easy on you.
