About Mappy Kids (japan)
Mappy Kids came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, developed and published by Namco. It was part of that wave of late 80s platformers where developers were experimenting with more colorful, cartoonish worlds beyond the straightforward arcade ports.
You control a young mouse named Mappy Jr., and your main goal is to rescue your friends who have been captured. The game is split between two distinct phases. First, you explore a large, side scrolling overworld, jumping between platforms and searching for the specific houses where your friends are held. Then, you enter those houses for a top down, screen by screen search, avoiding enemies and collecting items. A key mechanic is using a trampoline to bounce to higher floors, which requires some timing to navigate the multi story rooms. The pacing is generally relaxed, though it can get tricky when you are being chased. It feels like a cheerful, methodical scavenger hunt.
