Maniac Mansion is this weird, hilarious point-and-click adventure from the late '80s where you control a bunch of teenagers trying to rescue Dave’s girlfriend from a mad scientist’s creepy mansion. The NES version is a little stripped down compared to the PC original, but it’s still packed with bizarre puzzles and dark humor—like feeding sentient tentacles or accidentally microwaving a hamster (oops).

You pick three characters from a group of seven, each with their own weird skills—the nerd can hack computers, the punk girl plays music, and the photographer… well, takes photos, obviously. Half the fun is figuring out who’s actually useful and who’ll just get you killed. The mansion’s full of ridiculous secrets, and the game doesn’t hold your hand at all. Good luck not getting stuck for hours.

It’s janky by today’s standards, but there’s nothing else quite like it. Just don’t blame me when you’re stuck trying to figure out why the meteor won’t stop glowing.
