About Maniac Mansion (france)
Maniac Mansion came out for the NES in 1988, a port of the Lucasfilm Games computer original. It was a different kind of game for the console, a point and click adventure that felt more like directing a cartoon than jumping on platforms.
You control Dave and choose two friends from a roster of six, each with unique skills. The goal is to rescue Dave's girlfriend Sandy from the mansion of the eccentric Dr. Fred. You explore the house screen by screen, picking up items and using them on the environment or other characters. The main challenge is figuring out the right sequence of actions; using the wrong item in the wrong place can lead to a dead end or a sudden, often silly, death. The game does not hold your hand, so you spend a lot of time experimenting and mapping the mansion in your head. Playing it feels like slowly untangling a complex, humorous puzzle.
