About Madden '95 (usa, Europe)
Madden '95 for the Game Boy came out in 1994 from EA Sports, a time when having a full sports sim in your pocket was still a novelty. It was one of the more complete football experiences you could get on the handheld, sitting alongside other cartridge based sports titles that tried to replicate their bigger console cousins.
You control the entire football team, calling plays from a simplified playbook and then executing them on a field that scrolls screen by screen. The main objective is to outscore your opponent by moving the ball downfield, either through running plays or short passes. Signature mechanics include player substitutions, where you can swap in different personnel, and a season mode that lets you manage a team through a full schedule. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the difficulty comes from reading the defense and finding open receivers in the limited field of view. It feels like a thoughtful, portable version of a complex game.
