Madden '95 on Game Boy is basically '94 but with a few extra bells and whistles—still the same solid football sim, just a little less clunky. You get all the teams, playbooks, and that classic Madden commentary (well, as much as you can squeeze into a tiny cartridge). The controls take a minute to get used to—took me a few botched snaps before I stopped accidentally hiking the ball into the stands.
It’s impressive how much they crammed into a handheld version, though. Running plays actually feel decent once you figure out the timing, and the passing game isn’t totally random. Just don’t expect the graphics to blow you away—this is still a green-and-black Game Boy screen we’re talking about. If you’re stuck on a road trip and need some football, it gets the job done.
