Lupin Sansei: Pandora no Isan came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed and published by Namco. It was part of that wave of early NES titles that tried to translate popular properties into interactive adventures, in this case the Lupin the Third manga and anime series. You don't see many games based on that franchise from that period, so it always stood out to me on the shelf.

You control the gentleman thief Lupin III, and your goal is to find the pieces of the Pandora's Box artifact. The game is structured screen by screen; you move from one static area to the next, searching for clues and items. A key mechanic is using your extending fist to punch enemies and break certain blocks, while also finding tools like a grappling hook to reach new areas. It's a methodical, exploration-heavy game, and the difficulty comes from figuring out where to use your limited items and navigating the sometimes unforgiving enemy placements. Playing it feels like a slow, deliberate puzzle box where every correct move opens up just a little more of the world.
