Lode Runner 3-D on N64 takes the old-school digging and dodging formula and throws it into a blocky, early 3D world. At first, the shift from 2D sprites feels weird—you’re still running around grabbing gold while those little monk-looking guys chase you, but now everything’s polygonal and a bit slippery. Took me a few levels to adjust, but once you get the hang of blasting holes to trap enemies or drop them off ledges, it clicks.
The puzzles get surprisingly devious later on, especially when they start throwing in moving platforms and switches. Some of the camera angles are a pain (it is an N64 game, after all), but there’s something satisfying about outsmarting the AI by luring them into your carefully dug pits. If you’re into methodical chaos, this one’s a solid time capsule.
