About Lemmings
Lemmings on the Game Boy came out in 1994 from Ocean Software. It was one of those puzzle games you'd see people hunched over on car trips or in the back of the classroom, a small green world contained in your hands. This was during the peak of the Game Boy's life, a time when complex games had to be cleverly designed to work on that limited screen.
You don't control the lemmings directly. Instead, you assign jobs to them as they march mindlessly forward. Your main goal is to guide a certain number of them to the exit on each screen. You have a toolbox of skills like making a lemming block others to create a queue, or become a climber to scale walls, or most famously, become a bomber to clear a path with a timed explosion. The game is slow and methodical; you pause frequently to plan your next move under a strict time limit. It feels like conducting a miniature, slightly chaotic rescue operation where every mistake is painfully permanent.
