About Lemmings (japan)
Lemmings for the Game Boy came out in 1991, developed by DMA Design. It was one of those puzzle games that felt perfectly suited for the handheld, joining a library filled with platformers and action titles. You could carry a complex challenge in your pocket, which was a different kind of experience for the system at the time.
You don't control the lemmings directly; instead, you assign jobs to them as they march mindlessly forward. The goal is to guide a required number of them to the level's exit. You use a cursor to select a lemming and give it a specific skill, like digging through a wall, building a staircase, or becoming a blocker to halt the parade. The screen is your entire puzzle space, and you watch the clock as your little workers slowly change the landscape. It requires careful planning and quick reactions, especially when a lemming you just assigned a task walks off a cliff. The feeling is a mix of frantic problem-solving and quiet satisfaction when a plan finally comes together.
