Legendary Wings is one of those NES shooters that starts simple—just you, a little winged dude, and a ton of enemy sprites flying at you—but then suddenly throws you into these weird side-scrolling platformer sections. The controls are tight, though, and once you get the hang of switching between flight and ground combat, it’s oddly satisfying. The power-ups are a gamble—sometimes you grab one and feel unstoppable, other times you’re stuck with a pea shooter while the screen fills with bullets.
Keyboard controls are mapped pretty well: Z and X for shooting, arrows to move. The first level’s a breeze, but by stage two, you’ll be dodging fireballs and praying for a spread shot. The music’s got that classic Capcom energy, too—upbeat, slightly frantic, perfect for a game where you’re constantly outnumbered. Just don’t expect to beat it on your first try.
