Ever played a fishing RPG? Legend of the River King on the Game Boy is basically that—part relaxing fishing sim, part weirdly addictive adventure. You start off with a basic rod, some bait, and a vague goal to catch a legendary fish, but it quickly turns into this whole thing where you’re battling fish, upgrading gear, and even dealing with random encounters (yes, like an RPG, but with carp).

The pixel art’s charming, and the fishing mechanics actually require some timing—none of that instant-reel-in nonsense. At first I kept losing fish because I’d panic and mash buttons, but you learn to wait for the right moment. Also, there’s a day/night cycle, and some fish only bite at certain times, which gives it that extra layer of "just one more cast" obsession.

It’s one of those hidden Game Boy gems that’s way more interesting than it sounds. You can play it on an emulator now, but honestly, it still holds up.
