Oh man, Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening on the Game Boy—this one's special. It’s the first handheld Zelda, and somehow they crammed this weird, dreamy little adventure into that tiny cartridge. You wash up on Koholint Island, which feels cozy at first… until you realize nothing here makes sense. Talking animals, a chain-chomp just… hanging out, and this whole island might just be the Wind Fish’s dream? Classic Zelda dungeons, but with this offbeat charm. Also, good luck with that trading sequence—I got stuck for days trying to figure out who wanted the damn banana.
You’re hunting down these magical instruments to wake the Wind Fish, but half the fun is just poking around, finding secrets in every screen. The music’s simple but weirdly haunting, especially that Ballad of the Wind Fish tune. It’s still one of my favorite Zelda games, even with the Switch remake floating around.
