I picked up The Lawnmower Man for the Game Boy around 1993, a time when movie tie-ins were everywhere. It was published by THQ, I believe, and it tried to do something different by blending a few genres together on the small screen. You could tell it was part of that wave of games trying to capture a film's story, even with the hardware's limitations.

You control Jobe, a man whose intelligence is being artificially enhanced. The game shifts perspectives; you run through side-scrolling platform stages, navigate maze-like environments from a top-down view, and even pilot a vehicle in some sections. Your main goal is to stop the villainous Virtual Reality project. You jump over hazards, shoot at security systems and enemies, and solve simple puzzles to progress. The difficulty can be uneven, with some parts requiring precise jumps and others feeling more like a straightforward exploration run. Playing it feels like a fragmented trip through a digital world, piecing together the action as you go.
