LEGO Racers on N64 is one of those games that just gets what makes LEGO fun. You start by slapping together your own car—brick by brick—and yeah, you can make it look absolutely ridiculous if you want. The handling’s a little floaty, but once you get used to it, drifting around candy-colored tracks or dodging giant rolling boulders in a desert level feels surprisingly good.
The power-ups are classic LEGO charm too—stuff like speed boosts that shoot flames out the back or homing missiles shaped like little rockets. Some of the later tracks get wild, with loops and jumps that make you wonder how your janky brick-built car hasn’t fallen apart yet. It’s not the most polished racer out there, but there’s something about the sheer creativity of it that still holds up.
If you ever spent hours building LEGO cars as a kid just to smash them into walls, this is basically that fantasy in video game form.
