About Kyorochan Land
Kyorochan Land was a Game Boy release from 1990, developed by Character Soft. It arrived during a period when the handheld was full of simple, colorful platformers, and this one fit right in. The game is based on a Japanese mascot character, Kyoro-chan, a green parrot used to advertise a chocolate snack. It was a familiar face in Japan, making the jump to a game world that felt typical for its time.
You control Kyoro-chan, moving him screen by screen through a sidescrolling world. Your main goal is to rescue your friend, a small yellow bird named Pichin, who has been kidnapped. You navigate platforms, avoid enemies like snails and bees, and collect items. A signature mechanic is your ability to puff up with air, which lets you float for a short time to cross wider gaps. You also collect special items, like a whistle that temporarily stuns all on-screen enemies. The pacing is generally relaxed, though some jumps require precise timing. Playing it feels like a straightforward, cheerful trip through a compact cartoon world.
